Whooping Crane, Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, Texas
The Whooping Crane is the rarest crane in the world. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of viewing these beauties in their natural habit at Aransas National Wildlife Refuge. Captain Tommy from Rockport Birding and Kayaking Adventures was a fabulous guide. We spotted tons of other birds in addition to the Whoopers. I probably added half a dozen lifers at least! It was cloudy and foggy which made the whole experience quite magical though it did make photography a bit difficult. We saw many chicks which is incredibly exciting.
