Indigo Bunting

Indigo Bunting, Corps Woods, Galveston, Texas

At first glance I almost thought this bird was a Blue Grosbeak. Upon closer inspection it appears to be a juvenile molting male Indigo Bunting, my guess is second year. Fifteen minutes prior to this photo I saw about half a dozen Indigo Buntings and a couple Blue Grosbeaks. When you see them together the Grosbeaks are much larger and have more black and a little bit of red on their wings so they are easier to identify.
